Celebrate Easter with a Twist of Tech!

Updated: Sep 7

Easter in Aotearoa is all about relaxing with whānau, enjoying chocolate eggs and embracing the changing season. But this year, it’s extra special! With the school holidays falling right alongside Easter, there’s plenty of time not only to relax but build your STEM skills and try something new. To make your break both creative and fun, we’ve put together a few Easter-inspired tech projects for you to explore and enjoy.

Virtual Bunny Game

No Arduino or robotics gear at home? No worries! Try designing a virtual bunny game in Scratch or Python.

3D Print Your Own Easter Egg

Got access to a 3D printer? Use a design tool like Tinkercad to create and print your own custom Easter eggs. You can even add a twist by including robotic features like moving parts, or even build a mini robot that can open and close the egg!

Bunny Bot

Use a microcontroller like Arduino or a robotics kit to build your very own bunny robot. Make it hop, move, and wiggle its ears. You can add some pipe cleaners, LED lights and pastel colours for a festive touch! This hands-on project is a fun way to explore the basics of robotics and programming.

Easter Egg Hunt Robot

Design and code a robot that can detect and collect colourful eggs using sensors or simple object recognition for an Easter egg hunt. It’s a fun and collaborative project to try with siblings or friends during the break!

Egg-Decorating Robot

Build a rotating platform powered by a motor to spin your eggs while using markers or paint pens to draw colourful and unique patterns on them.

If you live in Auckland, there are plenty of free STEM events and activities at Auckland Libraries over the school holidays. For more details, check out:

Next Workshop

Get a headstart on your Mother’s Day gift! Join us at Albany Village Library on 26th April 2025 at 2pm for our monthly STEM workshop! This time, we’ll be diving into the world of mechanical flowers! Explore how they work behind the scenes and take home a unique gift that’s sure to wow.

Happy Easter and happy building!
