Notes:This is a private event for Settlers village, not an open to public event.
Welcome, Settlers families and friends,
This Christmas, join us for something special: a celebration where tradition sparks innovation. No experience is needed. Just come along and explore hands-on activities that inspire curiosity, laughter, and meaningful conversations across generations.
STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics, but don’t let that intimidate you.
Think of it as organised curiosity: the kind of problem-solving and creative thinking you’ve been doing your whole life, whether you were:
Growing a lush and productive garden
Navigating with a paper map before GPS existed
Stargazing and identifying constellations with family and friends
Following a knitting pattern...
Our Philosophy for this STEAM Carnival
Learning never retires. Curiosity and wonder are lifelong gifts that keep us young at heart.
Generations have so much to share with each other. Seniors have navigated incredible technological changes in their lifetimes, from rotary phones to smartphones, from handwritten letters to emails, from paper maps to GPS. You’ve adapted before. Your perspective is just as valuable as any new technology, and your life experience is just as important as a child’s tech-savviness.
The best learning and the best conversations often happen through play. Hands-on activities help break down barriers and spark natural discussion.
Technology is a tool, not a replacement. Human wisdom, creativity, and connection will always be essential.
We wanted to create an experience where:
Everyone participates as equals. No one is the “expert” or the teacher.
We all learn by playing. No complicated explanations.
We all wonder together. Questions matter more than answers.
The Heart of Our Carnival: Love, Harmony, and Connection
Many of us learned at a young age that Santa may not exist as a single person. But the deeper truth is that Santa is everywhere, in every act of love and kindness.
Each of our activities tells a story about love and connection:

People & People (Santa’s Igloo)Light up stars for your loved ones’ zodiac signs.
Learn basic circuits while honouring their presence in your life, creating your own constellation of beautiful memories.

People & Nature (Forest Symphony)Discover how we are part of nature’s delicate balance, a balance that thrives through mutual support, just like our community.

People & Technology (Santa’s Showdown)Explore AI and technological advances as powerful tools with real limitations, and reflect on where human judgment and care are still needed.

People & Community (Fundraising Craft Stall for Starship Children’s Hospital) Unite your skills and generosity to spread joy to children in need.
Sample Questions to Ponder Before Your Visit
What navigation skills did you use before GPS and smartphones?
Have you ever noticed technology making mistakes?
What can humans do that AI (Artificial Intelligence) can’t?
What makes each type of intelligence special?
Can technology be biased, or is it always fair?
What plants or trees from your childhood were special to you?
Do you have any thoughts about the life of a tree and the life of a human being?
How are nature, people, and technology all connected?
What traditions help you stay connected to loved ones?
And more...
