Mother’s Day is a special time to honour and celebrate the important role that mothers—and mother-like figures—play in our lives. It’s a day to express gratitude for their love, support, guidance, and the countless sacrifices they make for their families.

It’s also a chance to recognise the many STEM skills and knowledge that mothers quietly pass down through everyday moments—often without us even realising it. From baking treats in the kitchen, measuring out ingredients, and exploring nature in the garden, to organizing complex schedules, sewing projects, or managing household budgets, mothers and role models are often our very first STEM mentors. Even simple activities, like mixing paints for art projects, calculating the perfect timing for a family roast, or identifying backyard birds and plants, become hidden lessons in chemistry, biology, structural thinking, and mathematics—all applied to everyday life.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate and thank the moms, mother figures, and mentors who inspire curiosity, creativity, and resilience in the next generation.
